Brace yourself for hand knitted goodness and cuteness. My nephew and his Milla Mia Fabian Top…
My nephew just turned two years old. Lucky for me, as a knitter and a besotted Aunty, his birthday is in winter, so I can knit him jumpers. This year I knew exactly what jumper I wanted to knit for him; a Fabian top by Swedish knitting designers Milla Mia. Their kids patterns are fabulous.
The pattern comes from their collection “Bright Young Things”
I used the same colours as suggested by the pattern but opted for yellow cuffs, using a Debbie Bliss yarn, instead of red. Thank you Yarn and Co for stocking Milla Mia patterns and yarn.
I knitted size 2 to 3 years and hoped that it would fit okay. I managed to measure his torso whilst he was playing at his great grandmothers house. He thought the tape measure was funny. I chuckle at the thought of him in ten years time, seeing me coming at him with the measuring tape…”Oh no, not ANOTHER jumper!”
The pattern is an easy knit. If you are interested in knitting this one, I recommend carrying the yarn, not cutting, in between the stripes otherwise you will have so many ends to sew in. I also recommend remembering to cast-on the extra ten stitches after the first stripe repeat, I forgot three times! The annoyance at having to start the front of the jumper four times…well you can imagine.
I very happy with how this jumper turned out. It is the right size, perhaps slightly big in the neck and shoulders, but it will still fit after summer so he should get a fair bit of wear out of it.
