Knitting, friendship and football

dapoxetine for cheap Recently, I have knitted an easy project, but in colours I have found most challenging! Michelle's Hawthorn Beanie

The project: an AFL Hawthorn Football Club inspired beanie for a female friend of mine. Hawthorn Football Club colours are dark brown and yellow, not the most flattering of colours and not ones I’d automatically chose to go together in a beanie (if you are a Hawthorn supporter you are welcome to give me a “boo-hiss”).

However, I took on the challenge because she and I have been friends since we were little kids (4-years-old) and I love her very much. I imagine her wearing the beanie to the football on a freezing winter’s day and it makes me smile to know, that even if her team looses (another ‘boo hiss’), her head will be toasty.

I visited a favourite yarn store of mine Yarn and Co, where the owner and I went through all the browns and all the yellows to come up with the best combination; Cleckheaton Perfect Day in Chocolate and Sublime Merino in Mustard.

The beanie is almost finished, I’m pretty happy with how it looks so far; it’s my take on a football beanie.

The question is What colour pom-pom? Yellow? Brown? Or a mix of both? Comment below with your choice. I will post a picture of the finished beanie.

And to my oldest friend, I loved knitting this for you. The beanie is filled with warmth and love, and may your team always win!

  1. Hi Leah, I have to agree with you, brown & yellow aren’t the most inspiring colours (except if they’re autumn leaves), so good on you for making the best of the situation. Beanie pom pom colour is always a hard one, I’d make one of each and see which one you like best.

Thank you Michelle – you are right, yellow and brown are beautiful colours in autumn! And there are plenty of autumn leaves here in Melbourne at the moment.

That is gorgeous and far more classy than any footy beanie I’ve seen before. Chocolate pom pom gets my vote. I love your blog xo.

Thank you Bec, hope to give you more smiles with Miss Pippilotta. So that’s one vote for a chocolate pom pom so far 😉

  3. What a gorgeous post. Or maybe I’m just biased. Yes, another Hawthorn FC supporter here. I have been challenged myself by the colour combination. Brown and yellow. Awkward. I think your choice of colours is gorgeous. I think the pom pom has to be mustard, but I am loving yellow at the moment, so warming on a cold, wet, grey Melbourne winter’s day. Looking forward to seeing the finished result! x

Oh lovely, thank you Kate. I’ll take your vote, as a Hawthorn supporter, most seriously 😉 I do like the idea of a yellow pom pom bouncing around at the football in winter.

  6. Tom says:

Mustard if she’s a diehard fanatic, chocolate if she’s a lady.

    1. misspippilotta says:

Die hard fanatic and a lady, so I’ll make that a mix of both. Thank you Tom!

What a lovely post Leah!!! I’m feeling very special and honoured that you are knitting this gorgeous beanie for me. You will also now be at the footy with me in spirit, and I have no doubt that everyone is going to be well jealous of my amazing beanie, which yes, will be keeping me warm on the inside and out. What a privilege it is to have you as my oldest/longest friend. I love the colours, the stripes and that it is made with love. In terms of pom pom, happy to go with whatever you (and the community) decide. I’ll be just excited to have a pom,pom on my head!!!! You are a beautiful and dear friend, and I look forward to many more years of friendship together. M xxx
