Are you a besotted Aunty or Uncle too? Isn’t it great!
This time last year I became an Aunty to my first (biological) nephew and a year later I still marvel over what a wonderful gift he is. Now and again it hits me, “Wow this is forever, this Aunty and Nephew stuff is awesome.”
He has a few nicknames including crumpet, pumpkin, Mr M, and poppet but I tend to say “my little mate.”
At one year old, I can already see he is gentle, clever and loves a good giggle.
I have a list of must-do experiences I want to share with my little mate. High on the list is sharing the fun of dancing. My little mate is walking now and he bounces when he hears a tune he likes, so it’s not long till he and I can dance together.
I’ve created a playlist anticipating our first dance together. Not the Wiggles or other music kids usually like to dance to, I’ll leave that for others to do.
The list has Baggy Trousers by Madness; perfect for crazy dancing in pyjamas at home, Country House by Blur and a few other indie songs that have child-friendly lyrics. I’ve sneaked in Def Con One by Pop will Eat Itself because it is so much fun to dance to; I just hope Mr M doesn’t start repeating the line “Give me Big Mac, give me fries to go!”
He can refer to my songs as his silly old Aunty’s music if he likes. He could of course, not like any of it, preferring to laugh at me not with me. That’s okay, so long as he has a giggle.
Enjoy the playlist and please dance along with Mr M and me.
Are you a besotted
slightly mental Aunty too? What hobbies and interests do you share with the children in your life?
Happy Birthday Mr M! With love from your Aunty XXX. Next on the list is some crafty adventures Yay!
